Suspense continues over names of next Uttarakhand, Goa chief ministers
After the conclusion of assembly elections in five states, suspense over who will be the chief minister in Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur remains. While Yogi Adityanath will continue as the CM of Uttar Pradesh, BJP has been silent about the above states. On Tuesday, Goa's caretaker CM Pramod Sawant and his Uttarakhand counterpart arrived in Delhi to meet top BJP leaders.
Why does this story matter?
Barring Punjab, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won in all the four states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Goa and it is now preparing to form the government in these states. BJP's Parliamentary meeting is currently underway at the Ambedkar Bhawan in New Delhi. A decision is expected to be taken on the chief ministers' name during the meeting.
BJP's dilemma in Uttarakhand
In Uttarakhand, the saffron party is faced with the dilemma of deciding the CM face, as outgoing CM Pushkar Singh Dhami lost his Khatima seat to a Congress candidate. Notably, BJP registered victory on 47 of the 70 seats in the recently held elections. It also set a new record in the hill state, where governments are changed in each election.
Names have been decided: Report
"The central leadership has finally been able to decide the name. It should be announced shortly. The names of CMs in all four states will be announced simultaneously. This was one of the major delays in making a decision for Goa," an official told News18.
Pramod Sawant vs Vishwajit Rane in Goa
Besides outgoing CM Pramod Sawant, there is one more name in the race for the chief minister's chair in Goa, the BJP MLA from Valpoi Vishwajit Rane. According to reports, speculation is rife that a political tiff is brewing between Sawant and Rane and the party is trying to find a solution to keep both parties happy.
"Rane liked by top leaders in Delhi"
"He is liked by some of the top leaders in Delhi. He is a strong contender, it's the tussle between them that is delaying the decision," News18 quoted a leader as saying about Rane.
All four CMs to be announced together
According to a report by News18, the party has narrowed down a name for Uttarakhand. However, it is working out the names for the remaining three states and wants to announce all four chief ministers together. In Manipur too, there is no clarity whether N Biren Singh will continue as the chief minister or the party will give the responsibility to someone else.
