After the successful "Chai pe Charcha" campaign before 2014 LS elections, PM Modi has now suggested that party MPs should hold "tiffin pe charcha" for 2019 polls. They have been asked to break down the budget for the common people. This pre-poll strategy was unveiled at the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, where BJP president Amit Shah also addressed members. What is Modi's "Tiffin pe Charcha" idea?
Modi asked MPs to utilize the break in the Budget session to reach out to their constituents. He suggested that they carry their "tiffins" to booths. While sharing and eating food with local party workers and voters, he asked MPs to discuss the benefits of the Budget, particularly Modicare. They are supposed to simplify it for masses so that they can relate to it.
Meanwhile, Amit Shah slammed Rahul's leadership as being undemocratic
At the meeting, BJP President Amit Shah took a tough stance on the Rafale deal case, telling MPs that Congress created unnecessary controversy. He said whatever could be made public has been given without endangering national security. He slammed Congress President Rahul Gandhi's "undemocratic" politics for disrupting PM's Parliament speech. Motivating MPs, he said, "Don't look towards Rajasthan defeat. Work towards victory in 2019."
In what context should these speeches be seen?
These speeches are significant because in recent times, BJP has been hit by a slight anti-incumbency wave. This was observed in its complete washout in the recent Rajasthan by-polls, where it's in power, and a lack-lustre Gujarat performance. Moreover, in the near future, there are two more Lok Sabha by-elections coming up in Bihar; the BJP-JD(U) combine is in power there.
