BJP worker's death in WB might have been suicide: Police
The post-mortem report of BJP worker Dulal Kumar, who was found hanging from a tree on Saturday in West Bengal's Purulia district, suggests that the party worker had committed suicide. The incident comes three days after another BJP worker, Trilochan Mahato, was found dead in Purulia with a chilling message on his t-shirt. Here's more on the investigations.
What the police said
"We received post-mortem reports which state 'death due to asphyxia, hanging ante-mortem and suicidal ingestion'. We are taking formal action," said Akash Magharia, the new police chief of Purulia.
The fallout of the alleged murders in West Bengal
21-year-old Trilochan Mahato's dead body was found on 31st May with a message on his t-shirt, attributing his death to his allegiance to BJP. Just days later, 32-year-old Dulal Kumar was found hanging from a tree. Following the incidents, BJP alleged that the murders were politically motivated and had been carried out by TMC workers, and went on strike in Purulia on Sunday.
WB government has handed over the Mahato case to CID
Unlike the Mahato case, police didn't find any written threat or note indicating the involvement of political parties in Dulal Kumar's case. When asked about the investigations in the Mahato case, Magharia said that the "other case (Trilochan Mahato) is heading in the right direction too. The state government has handed it over to CID."
