BJP's Vinay Katiyar: Delhi's Jama Masjid was "Jamuna Devi Temple"
BJP MP, Vinay Katiyar is known to stoke controversies. After claiming that Taj Mahal was built by breaking down a Shiva Temple, the Bajrang Dal chief has now declared that Delhi's Jama Masjid was earlier known as "Jamuna Devi Temple." Further, he said, in the past, about 6,000 places had been razed by invading Mughal forces. What other "facts" did he clarify? Read on!
What did Katiyar have to say about Jama Masjid?
Seventeenth century Jama Masjid is India's largest mosque and can hold about 25,000 people at one time. The marble and red-sandstone mosque was also built by Shah Jahan. Katiyar claims that "Jama Masjid was originally Jamuna Devi temple" just like "Taj Mahal was Tejo Mahalaya."
Katiyar's comments come a day after Babri dispute's 25th anniversary
Meanwhile, Katiyar's comments come a day after 25th anniversary of Babri Masjid. The ongoing case in SC was deferred until February 2018. Appearing for a Muslim litigant, Congress leader and senior counsel Kapil Sibal argued that the case be heard after 2019 LS elections in July, citing political ramifications. BJP slammed him for politicizing the matter and keeping important issues unresolved for electoral gains.
