    What's the story

Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik directed the state government on Tuesday to take action on bungalow reportedly damaged by former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Referring to media reports about vandalized 4, Vikramaditya Marg property, Naik called it a serious matter where taxpayers' money was involved.

Akhilesh Yadav vacated his former residence recently but allegedly left it in shreds.

In the letter, Governor Naik told CM Adityanath, "The residences allocated to the former chief ministers belong to the Estates department and their maintenance is done through the taxpayers' money."

He asked the government to take note of the damages caused and initiate strict action against the guilty.

Estate department officials were called by Naik and they showed him videos of the vandalized property.

    The damaged house

The residence where Akhilesh Yadav lived once couldn't be recognized, after he recently vacated it.

Many structures were razed to the ground, ACs, imported ceilings, garden lights and bathroom fittings were removed. The all-weather swimming pool was filled with sand and Turkish tiles were broken.

An official explained switchboards were ripped off, and a few parts were damaged beyond repair.

Only Akhilesh Yadav's bungalow was vandalized, says official

"Prima facie, we found nothing missing from the other bungalows nor was anything damaged. Only in Akhilesh's 4 Vikramaditya Marg bungalow, all items installed by the department were missing and a lot of damage was done to government property," an estate department official said.

    The statements

Parties at loggerheads after bungalow incident

When asked about the bungalow, Akhilesh Yadav said it was Bharatiya Janata Party's ploy to defame him.

Samajwadi Party leaders asked why photographs of other residences weren't shown and only Yadav was targeted.

The BJP, on the other hand, maintained this showed Yadav and his party's frustration. BJP spokesman, Rakesh Tripathi said it exposed Yadavs' opulence and how they wasted public money.

    Way forward

Estate department may serve notice to Akhilesh Yadav

The Estate department may serve a notice to Akhilesh Yadav if it is concluded the damage was intentional and things were missing.

Six Uttar Pradesh former CMs were asked to vacate government bungalows after exiting offices. Barring ND Tiwari, who is ailing, all of them have left their residences.

Notably, Akhilesh Yadav spent Rs. 42 crore for the bungalow's renovation.
