Uttar Pradesh elections phase 4: Voting underway in 59 seats
Voting in 59 seats in the fourth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections began at 7 am on Wednesday. The state will witness a multi-cornered contest between BJP, SP, Congress, and BSP. The prominent faces in this phase include UP Law Minister Brijesh Pathak, SP's national spokesperson Anurag Bhadauria, former minister Abhishek Mishra, ex-UP Assembly Deputy Speaker Nitin Agarwal, and BJP's Aditi Singh.
Over 2 crore voters in UP elections phase 4
As many as 2.13 crore voters of Uttar Pradesh will decide the fate of 624 candidates in 59 constituencies spread across nine districts of the state. There are 533 male and 91 female candidates in the fray. A total of 13,813 polling stations and 24,580 polling booths have been set up in 208 police station areas.
Reputation of 4 ministers from Yogi government at stake
In the fourth phase, the reputation of the four ministers of the Yogi Adityanath government is at stake. Urban Development Minister Ashutosh Tandon is contesting from Lucknow East and Law Minister Brajesh Pathak from Lucknow Cantt. Ranvendra Pratap Singh alias Dhunni Bhaiyya is trying his luck from Fatehpur's Hussainganj. Jai Kumar Singh Jackie—a minister from BJP's ally Apna Dal—is contesting from the Bindki seat.
Other prominent candidates in UP elections phase 4
From Lucknow's Sarojininagar seat, Abhishek Mishra, who was a minister in the SP government, is contesting. Former UP Assembly Deputy Speaker Nitin Agarwal is contesting from Hardoi in this phase on a BJP ticket. Aditi Singh, who left Congress and joined BJP is in the fray from Raebareli. Former SP minister Manoj Pandey is contesting from Raebareli's Unchahar seat.

"Today is the fourth round of voting in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. I request all the voters to make their contribution in strengthening the democracy by using their valuable votes," Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted in Hindi.
How did these constituencies vote in 2017 elections?
In the 2017 elections, the BJP bagged 50 out of the 59 seats. SP won four, while Congress and BSP had two seats each. One seat went to Apna Dal. At the same time, in the 2012 assembly elections, SP had 39 seats in its tally. BSP had 12, BJP had four, Congress had three, and Peace Party had one seat.
