TVK's Vijay launches '#GetOut' campaign against DMK, BJP
What's the story
Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President Vijay has launched the #GetOut campaign, aimed at the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The announcement was made at TVK's first anniversary celebration in Mahabalipuram.
Vijay slammed both the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and the BJP-led central government for their "anti-people policies."
The campaign demands the ouster of these governments for neglecting Tamil Nadu's pressing issues.
Public neglect
Vijay criticizes DMK and BJP for neglecting public issues
Vijay accused both ruling parties of colluding to distract from public issues.
He termed their actions a coordinated strategy, saying, "One sings while the other dances in unison."
The TVK leader appealed to citizens to back the #GetOut campaign against both governments for implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the three-language policy.
"There is a new issue...The Union government says funds won't be given if NEP is not implemented. This sounds like LKG, UKG children fighting," he said.
Election participation
Vijay's TVK to contest in 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections
Vijay, who launched the TVK on February 2, 2024, has also announced that his party will contest in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The party made its debut with a massive inaugural conference on October 27, 2024, which saw around three lakh people.
At the event, Vijay slammed both DMK and BJP as adversaries. He accused DMK of exploiting Dravidian identity for personal gain and condemned the BJP's divisive politics.
Rising influence
Vijay's political influence grows after local body election success
Vijay's political clout in Tamil Nadu has been growing ever since his fan club, the All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (AITVMI), won 115 of 169 seats in the 2021 local body polls. The victory has bolstered his standing in the state's politics greatly.
He has also said that TVK will only ally with parties that recognize his leadership, hinting at his CM ambitions for 2026.
