BJP leaders replace 'Tughlaq Lane' on nameplates with 'Vivekananda Marg'
What's the story
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma and Union Minister Krishan Pal Gujar have changed the address in the nameplates of their official residences on Tughlaq Lane to Swami Vivekananda Marg.
Sharma also shared pictures of his new residence after a housewarming ceremony.
The change came amid mounting pressure from BJP leaders to rename various sections in Delhi that are named after Muslim rulers.
Coordinated effort?
Other BJP leaders follow suit
The names include Najafgarh, Mohammadpur village, and Mustafabad. They were suggested to be named Nahargarh, Madhavpuram, and Shivpuri.
Gujar, the Minister of State for Cooperation and BJP MP from Faridabad, has also replaced the signboard outside his residence in a similar fashion.
A new signboard has also been installed outside Bungalow No. 10, further fueling speculation about a coordinated renaming effort among BJP lawmakers.

Historical context
Previous renaming initiatives under BJP rule
Under BJP rule, several renaming instances have also taken place in other states.
In 2018, Allahabad was renamed Prayagraj to restore its ancient identity associated with the Hindu pilgrimage site, Prayag.
Mughal Sarai Railway Station was renamed Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction.
Faizabad District was renamed Ayodhya the same year and Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh became Narmadapuram to highlight local historical and cultural identities over Mughal-era influences.
In 2023, Aurangabad in Maharashtra was renamed Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Osmanabad became Dharashiv.
