Muslim-minds poisoned for 70-years, hard-work needed to gain trust: Naqvi
Union Minister for Minorities Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Sunday said the Narendra Modi government has to do a lot for winning Muslims as their mind has been corrupted for the last 70 years. Naqvi said it was important to remind Muslims of the Center's initiatives, like triple talaq, to empower them. He also added losing Kairana bypoll doesn't ascertain BJP's defeat in 2019.
Minds of Muslims have been poisoned, claims Naqvi
"We've to do a lot more to gain Muslims' confidence because their minds have been poisoned over last 70 years. But the good thing is the new generation, especially women, are evaluating BJP on its merits and demerits. This is a positive development," said Naqvi.
Congress and others used Muslims as vote bank, alleges Naqvi
Slamming the Congress and other parties, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said they always used Muslims as just a vote bank. "They have never focused on their development and empowerment," he said, and added PM Modi was working to 'restore dignity' of the community. This year, Naqvi hosted an Iftar party for Muslim women, which was attended by a few victims of triple talaq.
Kairana defeat doesn't mean BJP will lose 2019, claims Naqvi
Speaking about the defeat in recently held Kairana bypolls, Naqvi said the loss doesn't imply the BJP will lose 2019 general elections. "It does not mean that we will lose all the elections. Now that we know that the opposition parties will stitch an alliance to contest the Lok Sabha polls, we will prepare a strategy to counter them," he said.
