Mann ki Baat: Modi speaks about female empowerment
In his first Mann Ki Baat radio show of 2018 aired on All India Radio (AIR), Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about Nari Shakti among other things and hailed female achievers who contributed immensely to India's transformation. Citing a few examples, PM Modi spoke about how women have taken on pioneering roles, and are reaching milestones in different fields.
Modi salutes India's female pioneers
PM Modi, whose government has extended support towards female literacy programmes and tried to curb female foeticide with the "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" initiative, spoke about examples from across the country. Modi cited several examples: all-female Air India crew's flight around the world, the all-female staff of Matunga railway station in Mumbai, and the women e-auto drivers of maoist-affected Dantewada, Chattisgarh.
Modi also said Padma nominations have become accessible for commoners
Citing the example of Padma Shree winner Arvind Gupta who created safe toys for children from waste, Modi said that there's now transparency in the nominations for the Padma awards, which make them more accessible to the common man. Modi also applauded the contribution of Padma Shree winner Laxmikutty, a teacher in Kerala who makes over 500 types of herbal medicines from her memory.
PM Modi lauds Mission Clean Morna River
PM Modi spoke about how the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana can reduce people's medicine expenses, and cited the example of Darshan from Mysore who had written about his experience on the My Gov app. The Mission Clean Morna River was also lauded by Modi where over 6,000 residents of Akola district, Maharashtra, and over 100 NGOs and colleges participated to clean Morna river.
