'Jo mandir banwayega, vote usko jaayega' slogans disrupt Rajnath's speech
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was caught in an unexpected situation on Sunday after his speech in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow was disrupted by sloganeering. Raking the Ram Temple issue, attendees shouted, "Jo Mandir Banwayega, Vote Usi ko Jayega (We will vote for the party, which constructs the Ram Temple)." The speech was disrupted for nearly four minutes, ANI reports. Here's what happened.
Organizers asked people to calm down
Singh, who is also an MP from Lucknow, was attending the Yuva Kumbh event. The organizers kept requesting people to calm down, and listen to the senior leader. Notably, Singh too asked the attendees to settle down and said he would speak only then.
Demand for Ram Mandir stops Singh's speech
Even BJP ministers asked Singh about plans for temple
Last week at the BJP parliamentary meet some ministers raised the issue and asked what was the party's stand on the sensitive issue. Ghosi MP Hari Narayan Rajbhar, Salempur parliamentarian Ravindra Kushwaha, and others jointly voiced their concerns. Being cornered by his own party members, Singh told them, "Thoda intezar kijiye (wait for some time)."
Earlier, Amit Shah said BJP wants temple at 'exact spot'
The disputed 2.77 acres of land in Ayodhya remains a politically volatile issue with BJP's ally Shiv Sena constantly pushing for the temple's construction. Just as the issue gained momentum, BJP President Amit Shah said the party wanted a grand temple at the 'exact spot'. He also claimed that issue will be solved in ten days if Supreme Court conducted daily hearings.
However, Adityanath assured only BJP can construct Ram Temple
Notably, UP CM Adityanath was also present at the Lucknow event where he said only BJP can construct a temple in Ayodhya. "Some people were speaking about Ram Janmabhoomi... they were saying that they will only vote for the party that will build Ram temple. I want to assure you that whenever that happens and we'll be the ones to do it," he said.
