Telangana: Husband is senior Congress leader, wife joins BJP
Social worker Padmini Reddy, wife of senior Congress leader of Telangana Damodar Raja Narasimha, joined BJP today. Narasimha was the Deputy Chief Minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh when N Kiran Kumar Reddy was Chief Minister. Welcoming her into BJP, Telangana BJP president K Laxman said Padmini has made a name for herself with her social work in Medak region and also among women.
Modi govt appointed female Defense Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker: Laxman
Laxman said the Modi Government appointed a woman, who is married into a Telugu family, as the country's Defense Minister (Nirmala Sitharaman) and made another woman the Lok Sabha Speaker (Sumitra Mahajan). Padmini joined the party as she appreciated the good work done by the NDA government, he said, adding she would be a strength to BJP. The ceremony was being held in Hyderabad.
NDA has taken several measures for women's benefits, says leader
Laxman said the NDA government has taken several measures for the benefit of women, including launching schemes like 'Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana' and enhancing maternity leave. Alleging that the TRS government did not distribute Rs. 2,800cr loans to a single woman Self-Help Groups (SHG) under a low-interest scheme, Laxman said his party, if elected to power, would undertake a loan waiver for SHGs.
Personal freedom is available to work in political arena: Narasimha
On his wife joining BJP though he is in Congress, Narasimha said, "Personal freedom is available to work in the political arena." Narasimha heads the Telangana Congress manifesto committee for the December 7 State Assembly Elections.
