Swamy believes if government supports, temple can be constructed tomorrow
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Subramanian Swamy on Monday said if the party doesn't back down, then Ram Mandir 'will be constructed tomorrow' in Ayodhya. Swamy, a Rajya Sabha MP, also said the temple will be built before Lok Sabha elections. He also supported the statement of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that only BJP can build a temple at the disputed land.
Swamy agrees with Adityanath, says temple will be build soon
"Yogi Adityanath is right in saying so. If the government doesn't back off then Ram Mandir can be constructed even tomorrow. Ram Mandir would be constructed ahead of Lok Sabha elections," Swamy told ANI.
Earlier, Swamy said it's his fundamental right to pray
Notably, Swamy has approached the Supreme Court demanding an early listing of the Ram Janmbhoomi issue. He had said his right to pray was superior to the Sunni Waqf Board's right to property. In September, the SC had said praying in a mosque wasn't integral to Islam and Swamy had welcomed the judgment. The sensitive case has been listed for January 2019.
Separately, BJP leaders are being questioned on temple issue
With general elections approaching, pressure has been mounting on the governing BJP to build the temple. In Lucknow, the speech of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was disrupted by sloganeering. Attendees shouted that they will vote for the party which will build a temple in Ayodhya. Later, Adityanath said whenever a temple is constructed, BJP will have a role in it.
Despite assembly poll losses, Swamy is confident about 2019
In his conversation, Swamy also touched the topic of losses in assembly polls. Losing the Hindi heartland states, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh to Congress, came as a huge shock to BJP. But Swamy remained optimistic. He said, "The people of the three states in which BJP lost the recent Assembly elections by slight margin will definitely vote for BJP in Lok Sabha."
