Delhi Elections: Sheila Dixit's son isn't surprised with Congress' performance
Congress made late Chief Minister Sheila Dixit its star-campaigner for Delhi Assembly Elections, reminding how she governed the National Capital. But, voters rejected it outrightly, and the grand old party didn't take lead on even a single seat. The poor performance, however, didn't surprise Sheila Dixit's son Sandeep, who said he knew from September that Congress would be washed out.
Sandeep blamed a couple of leaders for Congress' downfall
Yesterday, even before counting began, Sandeep had said, "I believe the Congress will perform very badly. I knew it from September itself. The laxity shown by Delhi in-charges in the organization... two-three people from Delhi Congress and AICC are directly responsible for ruining it." He also claimed senior Congress leaders and AICC in-charge insulted his mother, who governed Delhi for a straight 15 years.
Unlike other Congress leaders, Sandeep said exit polls are true
"It's a different thing that after losing tomorrow, different stories will be old and everything will be covered up. As far as I am concerned, what we are seeing in exit polls, the results too will be the same," the Congress leader had said.
Captain Amarinder's wife also said there is nothing for Congress
The same sentiment was revealed by Preneet Kaur, wife of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and a leader of the Congress. When asked to comment on exit polls that showed Congress was not even in the fight, Kaur replied, "There is nothing much for Congress, as per exit polls it seems Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is forming government in Delhi."
Congress drew blank in 2015 too, didn't learn from mistakes
Congress' internal fight and its failure to decide on candidates early on proved costly. The party sent leaders like Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka for campaigning, but they could hardly cause a dent in the minds of voters. In 2015 too, Congress didn't any seats, and a repeat performance five years later, only shows the party isn't concerned with introspection.
