Sheila Dikshit's son-in-law arrested
Former Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dixit's son-in-law has been arrested for allegedly inflicting violence on his wife. Dixit's son-in-law, Syed M. Imran, was booked under provisions of the Domestic Violence Act pursuant to a police complaint lodged at the Barakhamba Police Station by her daughter, Latika Dikshit. Imran was arrested from a rented house in Bangalore two days ago.
Sheila Dikshit
Sheila Dixit was the Chief Minister of Delhi for three terms, from 1998 - 2013. She has two children, Sandeep Dikshit, a former MP from East Delhi and Latika Dikshit. At present, Sheila Dikshit is Congress's CM candidate in upcoming UP elections.
Latika Dikshit's marriage breaks down
Sheila Dikshit's daughter, Latika Dikshit, is married to Syed Mohammad Imran. Latika alleged that soon after her mother's defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections after which she ceased to be Chief Minister, her husband Imran became abusive and aggressive. Imran began to ill-treat her, torture her and and on one occasion, almost choked her to death. They've been living separately for last 10 months.
Latika's accusations
In a police complaint lodged in June 2016, Latika alleged that her husband Imran was in an illicit relationship with another woman. She accused her husband of domestic violence and cheating; she claimed jewellery and other valuables were missing from her Delhi residence. Reportedly, papers of a property in Nanital owned by Latika were also taken away by her husband.
Police investigations
In pursuance to Latika Dikshit's complaint, Delhi Police contacted Imran to ask him to come to Delhi for investigations; however he repeatedly ignored their calls. Upon directions of senior officers, a Delhi police team travelled to Bangalore to arrest him.
Accused arrested
Latika Dikshit's husband Syed Imran was arrested from Halasooru, Bangalore where he was currently residing, and brought to Delhi. He has been booked under domestic violence charges and under several sections of the IT act.
