Stop allowances of ex-MP Sharad Yadav; can retain house: SC
The Supreme Court today modified the Delhi HC order by stopping salary and allowances of former Janata Dal (U) President and MP Sharad Yadav till the plea challenging his disqualification from the Rajya Sabha is pending. A vacation bench of Justices AK Goel and Ashok Bhushan, however, allowed him to retain his official bungalow, as ordered by the HC on December 15, 2017.
Yadav's plea to HC says he wasn't given a chance
The apex court's decision came on a plea by JD (U) Rajya Sabha MP Ramchandra Prasad Singh challenging the Delhi HC's interim order allowing Yadav to retain his official residence and draw his salary and perks. HC's interim order had come on Yadav's plea challenging his disqualification that he was not given any chance to present his case by the Rajya Sabha chairman.
Why was Yadav disqualified from Rajya Sabha?
Singh had sought the disqualification of Yadav and Anwar on the grounds that they had attended a rally of opposition parties in Patna in violation of the party's directives.
