Samajwadi Party candidate arrested in wife's murder case
Amanmani Tripathi, Samajwadi Party leader and a strongman from eastern Uttar Pradesh was arrested by the CBI for the alleged murder of his wife, Sara Tripathi. Sara died in 2015 when the married couple were driving to Delhi; the reason for her death was listed as a car crash on National Highway 2. Amanmani's parents are also criminals currently serving life-sentence.
About the couple
According to reports, Amanmani and Sara got married about a year before the accident took place. The marriage reportedly took place in an Arya Samaj temple at Aliganj, Lucknow. Amanmani and Sara were driving to Delhi when the accident took place. According to reports, on losing control, Amanmani banged the car into the divider; the couple was not wearing seatbelts.
Charges against Amanmani
Amanmani Tripathi is a declared absconder by a Lucknow district court in cases of kidnapping, illegal detention, assault and extortion.
Amarmani and Madhumani Tripathi
Amanmani's father, Amarmani Tripathi has been a minister of the Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party governments of Uttar Pradesh. In September 2003, Amarmani and his wife Madhumani were convicted for the murder of poetess Madhumita Shukla. As per DNA evidence, Madhumita was seven months pregnant with Amarmani's child. The two are now facing life-sentence for the same.
Mother of Sara Tripathi seeks probe in daughter's death
Seema Singh, Sara Tripathi's mother alleged foul play in the car crash responsible for the death of her daughter. She submitted an application to the DGP which sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the matter. She also demanded a narco test of Sara's husband Amanmani Tripathi as well as his father Amarmani Tripathi. This eventually led to Amanmani's arrest.
