Sambit Patra: News

Sambit Patra is a surgeon, social worker, and National Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Born in Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand, he did his MBBS from VSS Medical College & Hospital and MS in General Surgery from Srirama Chandra Bhanja Medical College & Hospital. After clearing the UPSC Combined Medical Services Exam in 2003, he joined the Hindu Rao Hospital in Delhi as its Medical Officer. In the early 2010s, Patra joined the BJP and contested the Delhi Municipal elections from Kashmiri Gate, which he lost. During 2014 and onwards, he started appearing on national television debates as the party’s National Spokesperson and has gained popularity because of his animated oratory and debating style. In 2017, Patra was appointed as a non-official director on the Oil and Natural Gas Company’s board by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Odisha’s Puri constituency but lost to Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) Pinaki Mishra in a tight contest.
