Bihar minister Tej Pratap deploys government doctors for kin's treatment
The RJD is under fire after Health Minister Tej Pratap Yadav recently deployed a government medical team to the family's Patna residence to treat a "family member". The team was stationed there during May 31-June 8, the same time when his father Lalu Prasad Yadav, RJD chief, had expressed inability to attend the birthday celebrations of DMK chief M Karunanidhi.
Tej Pratap is also chairman of Patna's IGIMS
Sources said Prasad had been suffering from fever. Patna's Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science confirmed Tej Pratap had asked for a five-member team. Pratap is also the hospital's governing body's chairman. The team comprised two nurses and three doctors: Aman Kumar, Naresh Kumar and Krishna Gopal. "We cannot say no. Being a minister, he will get preference," said IGIMS medical superintendent PK Sinha.
RJD defends Tej Pratap's actions, ally Congress in support
The BJP slammed the RJD for private deployment of government doctors. "At a time when healthcare is in such a sorry state, three top doctors were deployed for the health minister. Where will the common people go?" RJD defended by saying the doctors weren't stationed full-time, but visited twice daily. Ally Congress spoke in its support. JD(U), meanwhile, steered clear of the controversy.
