What's the story
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Zila Parishad member Anil Tiger Mahto was shot dead in broad daylight on Wednesday at a tea stall in Ranchi's Kanke area.
He was taken to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Per eyewitnesses, two attackers on a motorcycle shot him in the head when he was sitting at Thakur Hotel in Kanke Chowk around 4:00pm.
Arrest details
Shooter arrested, motive under investigation
The shooter was nabbed soon after the incident in an encounter with police. Though the exact motive behind Mahto's murder is still unclear, investigators suspect it could be due to a land dispute.
The arrested accused is being interrogated for more details.
"An accused in the murder of BJP leader Anil Tiger has been arrested. He has been shot in the thigh," SSP Ranchi said.

Bandh details
Ranchi bandh called in response to murder
Following the murder, the BJP and the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) have jointly called a Ranchi bandh on Thursday to protest the state's worsening law and order situation.
Protests were also held in the city, where BJP leaders and workers protested against the state government and called out CM Hemant Soren for his incompetence in ensuring law and order in Jharkhand.
