Rajasthan minister vows to burn books glorifying Akbar as 'great'
Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar has vowed to burn any textbooks that glorify Mughal Emperor Akbar as "great." Dilawar made the statement during an event at Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur on Sunday. Dilawar said, "We have reviewed the books for all classes and have not found any mention of Akbar as 'great.' If it is there, then all the books will be burnt."
Minister criticizes comparison of Akbar to Maharana Pratap
Dilawar criticized the comparison of Akbar to Maharana Pratap, a revered Rajput warrior king, calling it an insult to both Maharana Pratap and Rajasthan. He described Maharana Pratap as a protector of the people who never bowed down, accusing Akbar of causing numerous deaths for personal gain. He further added that calling Akbar "great" is an act of foolishness.
Committee formed to review school textbooks
Dilawar also announced the formation of a committee to review school textbooks and remove any content that may negatively portray national heroes or instill a sense of inferiority among students. He cited examples of textbooks that allegedly question the patriotism of prominent historical figures. The minister further condemned those who praise Akbar in school textbooks, labeling them as the "biggest enemies of the Mewar region and Rajasthan."
