Amethi: Rahul Gandhi hears public grievances in "Janata Darbar"
On the second day of his visit to Amethi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi conducted a "janata darbar" at the Munshirganj guest house in his parliamentary constituency, Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. With determination to defeat PM Modi, Gandhi heard people's grievances and promised to provide solutions, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. He assured financial aid to a mother for the treatment of her ailing son.
On January 15, Rahul Gandhi begins his Amethi visit
As the Congress Party gears up to fight BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Rahul Gandhi marked off a two-day visit to his constituency Amethi on January 15. To commemorate Gandhi's visit, Lucknow and Amethi were flooded with posters depicting Gandhi as Lord Rama pointing a bow and arrow towards PM Modi. He addressed a rally in Rae Bareli on his first day.
FIR lodged for depicting Modi as 'Ravaana'
BJP leader Surya Prakash Trivedi lodged an FIR against Congress leader Ram Shankar Shukla for the portrayal Narendra Modi as 'Ravaana', the mythological antagonist in Ramayana on the posters used in Amethi.
Rahul made grand promises for Congress
As he addressed the rally, he slandered PM Narendra Modi and severely criticized his nationwide schemes of demonetization and Swachh Bharat. Gandhi highlighted the unfulfilled promises made by the Modi-led BJP government and CM Yogi Adityanath while he promised welfare and employment if he is voted to power. He assured that he would build a "food park" for the people.
However, protests against Rahul Gandhi quelled in Salon
Just before Rahul Gandhi's arrival, protests erupted in Salon over the unfulfilled promises by Congress. The unkept promises included the restoration of the Vespa factory and a railway line from Rae Bareli to Amethi which still remain undelivered. Confusion ensued as the protests were quelled by alleged Congress workers in the presence of policemen. Protesters were beaten and chased away.
The dismal state of affairs for Congress in UP
In Assembly Election held in 2017, Congress won only seven seats of the total 403 seats in Uttar Pradesh, projecting a dismal failure in the state. BJP defeated Congress in seven out of the ten seats in Rae Bareli and Amethi.
