Mayawati's decision won't impact Congress's poll prospects in MP: RaGa
Congress President Rahul Gandhi today said BSP chief Mayawati's decision to not have an alliance with his party in Madhya Pradesh won't impact its poll prospects in the state. This comes after last week's announcement by the former Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati that her party won't forge an alliance with Congress "at any cost" for the upcoming Assembly Polls in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Gandhi, however, said an alliance would have been better
Speaking at HT Leadership Summit, Gandhi, however, said it'd have been better to have an alliance and expressed confidence that the party will win in all states- MP, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Telangana. He also suggested that BSP may come on board for the 2019 elections.
Alliance in state and Center are very different, says Rahul
"I think in national elections, parties will come together particularly in UP," Gandhi said, adding the BSP has indicated that as well. "The alliance in state and the Center are very different... Mayawatiji has indicated that. We were pretty flexible in the state. We were in the midst of the conversation but I guess they decided to go their own way," said the 48-year-old.
Mayawati said Congress didn't correct itself, betrayed BSP
Meanwhile, BSP chief Mayawati had said that even though the Congress chief and his mother Sonia Gandhi appeared to be in favor of an alliance, there were other "senior leaders" who worked to foil any possibility of an understanding. The 64-year-old politician alleged that the Congress had not mended itself and like the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), it has also "betrayed" her party.
