Teen served pizza at police station after Porsche crash: Opposition
Amid outrage over bail to the 17-year-old boy—driving the Porsche that killed two engineers in Pune on Sunday—the opposition has alleged that the teenager was fed pizza, burger, and biryani at the police station after being detained. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut demanded that Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar be dismissed. He also accused an MLA from Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party of being present at the police station and assisting the 17-year-old.
Opposition leaders express outrage over incident
"Pune Police helped a rich boy who took the lives of two young people.... You're serving him pizza and a burger for what?," Raut said. "A young couple was killed, and the accused was granted bail...In the video, it can be seen that he was drunk...but his medical report was negative. Who is helping the accused? Who is this Police Commissioner? He should be removed or the people of Pune will come on the streets," Raut told news agency ANI.
Maharashtra Congress MLA criticizes police conduct
Maharashtra Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar also made similar allegations, condemning the "sold out law and order" at Yerwada Police Station—where the teenager and other occupants of the sports car were taken following their detention. "The sold out law and order in Yerawada police station...which laid out the red carpet for the child's bail...The boy who crushed two of them like ants...was brought and fed biryani and pizza in the police station," Dhangekar said in an X post.
Bail conditions of teen
On Monday, the 17-year-old boy was released on bail 15 hours after his arrest, sparking outrage from various quarters of the society. His lawyer stated that the Juvenile Justice Board granted bail under specific conditions: undergoing psychiatric evaluation and treatment, working alongside traffic police for 15 days, and writing a 300-word essay on the "effect of road accidents and their solution," among others. Separately, police have filed an application with the sessions court to try the juvenile as an adult.
Owner, manager of bar, father of teen arrested
On Tuesday, the owner and the manager of a bar in Pune were taken into custody for allegedly serving alcohol to the minor. On Monday, a case was booked against the pub by Pune Police under sections of the Juvenile Justice Act. Earlier in the day, the 17-year-old's father was also arrested from Aurangabad, Maharashtra for allowing his underage son to drive an unregistered Porsche without a license.
2 MP engineers killed in crash
According to reports, the father—Vishal Agarwal—had bought the Porsche for his son in March but failed to register it due to non-payment of ₹44 lakh road tax. The accident occurred around 2:15am on Sunday when 24-year-olds Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both engineers from Madhya Pradesh working in Pune were returning from a get-together. Eyewitnesses reported that the Porsche was speeding at over 200km/h.
