Delhi Elections 2020: Prashant Kishor, who helped AAP, thanks voters
Certain that Arvind Kejriwal is returning as Delhi's Chief Minister for a third consecutive time, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is celebrating with all its might. The party is also receiving congratulatory messages and among the first ones to send one was poll strategist Prashant Kishor, who formed the party's campaign. Kishor, who was ousted from JD(U) recently, thanked voters of Delhi.
AAP's performance dipped from 2015, it's still a thumping majority
Counting for the highly-anticipated elections started at 8 am today and quite quickly AAP took a lead. At the time of press, AAP was leading on 58 seats, BJP on 12 and Congress, just like 2015, didn't take lead on a single seat. In comparison to 2015, BJP gained ground, improving its tally from 3 to 12, but still couldn't stall AAP's win.
Citing its report card, AAP sought votes
For AAP, the entire campaign was based on the work it did since 2015. In one interview, Kejriwal went as far as saying that he doesn't understand the concept of anti-incumbency when a CM has full five years to serve the citizens. Kejriwal reminded Delhi voters about the freebies he offered, schools he renovated, and promised to work harder. Eventually, the voters swiped right.
Kishor said Delhi 'protected' India's soul
AAP's campaign was the brainchild of Kishor's firm. Last year, Kishor scripted Jagan Reddy's historic win in Andhra Pradesh. Ecstatic after the results, Kishor tweeted, "Thank you Delhi for standing up to protect the soul of India!" His tweet is an apparent hint towards the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), that he has been opposing quite rigorously. He wanted non-BJP CMs to unite against it.
People have rejected BJP: Mamata Banerjee
West Bengal Chief Minister is also glad BJP lost. She said, "I have congratulated Arvind Kejriwal. People have rejected BJP. Only development will work, CAA, NRC (National Register of Citizens) and NPR (National Population Register) will be rejected."
AAP is winning Delhi, but Deputy CM is struggling
While AAP supporters broke into celebrations, deputy CM Manish Sisodia faced a setback. Sisodia, who is fighting from Patparganj constituency, is trailing behind BJP's Ravi Negi. Since the margin isn't huge, the result could go down to the wire. Among other bigwigs of AAP who are leading are Atishi (Kalkaji), Raghav Chadha (Rajinder Nagar), Amanatullah Khan (Okhla), and Somnath Bharti (Malviya Nagar).
