Parliament Day 11: Mob lynching issue rocks session
The issue of mob lynchings took the Parliament by storm on its 11th day. Comments by TMC's Saugata Roy drew particular ire. Roy claimed 63 people were killed in the name of cow protection during 2010-2017. 97% of these took place after PM Narendra Modi came to power. "You say you want Congress-mukt Bharat. Do you want Muslim-mukt Bharat?" he asked the BJP.
'52% of cow killings in BJP-ruled states'
"In 23 cases, attackers were from Bajrang Dal and Hindu groups," Roy added, proposing exclusive laws to deal with lynching cases. BJP's Hukmdev Narayan Yadav retorted by asking if now it's wrong to say Vande Mataram too. "Is this not mob lynching?" he asked. Congress' Mallikarjun Kharge ended with, "Let us be Hindustan and not Lynchistan."
Gujarat: Congress MLAs' 'abduction' continues to rock Parliament
Meanwhile, the issue of Gujarat Congress MLAs being "kidnapped" continued. Party leader Madhusudhan Mistry claimed their MLAs were being offered "Rs. 10-15 crore" to change their vote in the August 8 Rajya Sabha polls.
