Ministerial committee to hold talks with farmers: Finance Minister Behera
A ministerial committee of Odisha government will hold consultation with different farmers' organizations including Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) and Agriculture experts on the problems faced by the peasants in the state. The committee will hold the consultation on December 7, Finance minister S B Behera, who heads the committee, said yesterday, after the first ever meeting of the panel in Bhubaneswar, state capital.
Farmers demand hike in minimum support price and pension amount
The farmers led by NNKS have been staging agitations across the state demanding hike in minimum support price and pension for farmers. Behera said the committee decided to have a meeting with the NNKS leaders and others and will take the decision after receiving suggestions from them. The ministerial committee was formed by the state government on November 6 to look into farmers' demands.
Other committee members are Agriculture Minister, Cooperation Minister
The other members of the committee are Agriculture Minister Pradip Maharathy and Cooperation Minister Surya Narayan Patro. NNKS had earlier rejected the setting up of the ministerial committee. Its national convenor Akshya Kumar said, "We have been demanding an ordinance seeking farmer pension fund."
