As condolences poured in, the legendary actor became a trending topic on social media
But a tweet by the Congress left netizens furious.
Lamenting the loss, Congress wrote: "Our deepest condolences to her loved ones. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the UPA government in 2013."

Congress backtracks, issues new tweet with Sridevi's Padma Shri photo
Congress was quick to delete the offending tweet and issue a new one: "We regret to hear about the passing away of Sridevi. An actor par excellence. A legend who will continue to live in our hearts through her stellar body of work."
It followed up with another tweet about her Padma Shri by "the Govt of India" with a photo of the event.
