Miffed with Biplab Deb's 'intelligent comments', PM Modi summons him
If media reports are to be believed, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has been summoned by Prime Minister Modi for passing several controversial remarks in the recent days. Deb has been called to Delhi on May 2, to meet Amit Shah and PM Modi. Reportedly, many BJP leaders are upset with Deb's remarks and the party is worried his statements might affect poll-bound Karnataka.
Tripura people want development, not controversial remarks: BJP leader
An Economic Times report, quoted a BJP leader as, "In the recent elections in Tripura, people have given a massive mandate in favor of the BJP-led alliance. People want the government to focus on development and not create unnecessary controversies. There is huge resentment following the chief minister's comments." He added such comments don't toe the party's line especially ahead of 2019 general elections.
The many statements of Biplab Deb
Recently, Biplab Deb's remarks left the party red-faced and gave the Opposition ample opportunities to take jibes at BJP. He said Internet existed during Mahabharata, questioned Diana Hayden's crowning as Miss India, and advised youth to open paan shops instead of running after government jobs. Deb also said civil engineers should opt for civil services because they have the knowledge, unlike mechanical engineers.
