Dynasty politics biggest threat to democracy: Modi after Bihar win
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed a sea of supporters at an event celebrating the victory of the National Democratic Alliance in the recent Bihar Assembly elections and several bypolls. The NDA is led by Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party. Speaking at the event, Modi said that dynasty politics is the biggest threat to democracy, hitting out at the Indian National Congress.
Party celebrated recent election victories at HQ in Delhi
The event was organized at the BJP's headquarters in Delhi. As the celebrations come in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the huge crowd of party workers that had gathered was repeatedly asked to keep their masks on. Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, BJP chief JP Nadda were among those who attended the event.
Modi thanked people, congratulated NDA workers
Modi said, "I want to thank the people of the country, not because they made BJP win the polls across the states, but also because all of us enthusiastically participated in the festival of democracy." He added, "I congratulate every worker of NDA as well as their families for the success of their dedicated work and contribution in the elections," further congratulating Nadda.
'Sabka saath, sabka vikas,' secret to winning Bihar elections
Modi said that the Bihar elections were marked by the peaceful conduct of voting and no re-polling was conducted. "Earlier there used to be news of booth capturing," Modi added. Hailing the victory in Bihar as a win for development, he further said, "The secret to winning Bihar elections is 'sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwaas. (Together, for everyone's growth, with everyone's trust)"
'Biharis have proven that Bihar is the land of democracy'
Modi said, "Indians are repeatedly making it clear that the chance to serve the country will be given to those who work sincerely toward the country's development." He added, "I want to say to my brothers and sisters in Bihar that, once again, you've proven why Bihar is known as the land of democracy. You've proven that, indeed, Biharis are both connoisseurs and well-informed."
'Youth knows dynasty politics poses biggest threat to democracy'
Modi also hit out at the Congress party, which won just 19 seats in the Bihar polls and proved to be dead weight for the Rashtriya Janata Dal in the Mahagathbandan alliance. "India's youth today knows well that dynasty politics poses the biggest threat to democracy," Modi said, "Unfortunately, a national-level political party is caught in the web of family politics."
Those who fail to challenge us kill BJP workers: Modi
Modi also said that those who fail to challenge the BJP in a democratic way have resorted to killing the party's workers. Over a dozen BJP workers have allegedly been killed by Trinamool Congress workers in West Bengal this year. The PM added, "I want to make them understand that this dance of death won't help them win a mandate."
'Every life saved from COVID-19 a success story'
As India continues to struggle to contain the COVID-19 outbreak, Modi said, "Every life saved from COVID-19 is a success story for India." He added, "The way we have fought this pandemic from Janata Curfew till today has been reflected in these election results." In his closing remarks, he asked people to celebrate Diwali with full fervor, while following all precautions for COVID-19.
