'Mughal mentality': Modi on opposition leaders eating non-veg during Sawan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has criticized opposition leaders for their non-vegetarian dietary habits during the sacred Hindu months of 'Sawan' and 'Navratri.' He referred to this as a reflection of their "Mughal mindset." He added that after this statement, opponents will come after him with "goli-barood" (arms and ammunition), but it's his "duty in a democracy to show people the real side of situations."
Why does this story matter?
While PM Modi did not name anyone, his remarks appeared to be directed at Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav. In September, Gandhi uploaded a video from a "special meeting" with Lalu Prasad Yadav. In the video, Gandhi can be seen taking notes from Lalu while they make Bihar's "Champaran mutton." Another video recently surfaced showing Tejashwi consuming fish. Tejashwi later clarified that the video was shot before Navratri and was uploaded to "test the IQ of...Godi media followers."
PM Modi accuses opposition of disregarding Indian sentiments
During his speech in Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir, PM Modi also accused the opposition of engaging in appeasement politics and targeting a certain voter base. He asserted that such videos are posted during Hindu auspicious occasions in order to taunt and upset the majority of India's population. "These people are cooking mutton after visiting a criminal's house in Sawan. They make videos to mock the people of the country," he said.
PM Modi draws parallels between opposition and Mughals
To make his point, he drew a comparison between their actions and those of the Mughals, who took pleasure not only in defeating Indian kings but also in demolishing temples. At the same time, the prime minister stated that neither he nor the law "does not prevent anyone from eating veg or non-veg whenever they want." "But these people have other intentions," he added.
Kangana Ranaut earlier said she eats beef: Congress leader
Speaking of politicians eating non-veg, days ago, Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar alleged that Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi Kangana Ranaut once claimed that she eats beef. The allegations were later refuted by the actor-turned-politician. "I don't consume beef or any other kind of red meat, it is shameful that completely baseless rumors are being spread about me, I have been advocating and promoting yogic and Ayurvedic way of life for decades," she wrote on X.
