Mohan Singh Bisht named deputy speaker of Delhi Assembly
What's the story
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Mohan Singh Bisht has been elected as the deputy speaker of the Delhi Assembly.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta proposed his name for the appointment, which was backed by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
"I would like to present the following proposal that Mohan Singh Bisht, who is a respected member of this House, shall be elected as the Deputy Speaker," Gupta said during a session in the assembly.
Political career
Bisht's political journey and recent election victory
Bisht, a senior BJP leader, had recently won the Mustafabad seat in the assembly polls. He had defeated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s Adeel Ahmad Khan by a massive margin of over 17,000 votes.
Prior to this win, he had represented Karawal Nagar from 1998 to 2015 and again in 2020.
He lost only once in 2015 to BJP's Kapil Mishra.

The BJP made a thunderous comeback in Delhi on February 5, ending the AAP's decade-long rule.
The party won a majority with 48 out of 70 seats in the assembly polls.
Meanwhile, the AAP's representation fell to 22 seats, and the Congress couldn't win a single seat for a third successive time.
