Rajasthan: PM Modi to kick-start 9,500 projects on August 29
In a rare instance, PM Modi is set to kick-start 9,500 road projects worth Rs. 27,000 crore in Rajasthan under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and the state's own schemes. PM Modi is set to inaugurate these projects while visiting Udaipur next week. The events are also purported to be attended by those including Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and Union minister, Nitin Gadkari.
What are the projects being implemented under?
Majority of the projects are being implemented under centre's road connectivity schemes including PM Gram Sadak Yojana, Gramin Gaurav Path and the Rajasthan government's Rajasthan Road Sector Modernization Project. 31 others are further being operated under the Built Operate and Transfer (BOT) model.
What do we know about these roads?
Sources indicate that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is funding around 109 projects covering 3,000 projects costing around Rs. 15,000 crore; these involve road widening and improving the state's roads. PM Modi will also inaugurate 11 completed National Highway projects, which amount up to 873 km in length, including a six-lane cable bridge across the river Chambal in Kota.
On PM Modi's agenda: Wooing Rajasthan voters
Along with large-scale project rollout, PM Modi will also attend a large rally in Udaipur with the event being live-telecasted at about a dozen spots in the state. Timed ahead of Rajasthan assembly elections next year, Modi's visit seems to be intended towards wooing voters.
