PM Modi: No other government honored Ambedkar as we did
PM Modi today slammed other political parties for using BR Ambedkar's legacy for political mileage. He asserted that no other administration had honored the Dalit icon like his NDA government. By completing all projects conceived in his memory, they had given Ambedkar his rightful place, he added. Modi's comments come amid widespread Dalit protests against the "dilution" of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Modi highlighted how his government has honored Ambedkar
Modi was talking at the Parliament's Western Court annexe's inauguration, meant to provide accommodation to MPs. He said that 26, Alipur Road house where Ambedkar died would soon be dedicated to the nation on the latter's birth anniversary (April 13). He added that his government completed the Ambedkar International Centre. Though conceived during former PM Vajpayee's reign, Congress-led UPA didn't make any progress.
PM also underlined his government's commitment to the disadvantaged
Without referring to the Bharat Bandh protests, Modi tried to diffuse the tension. He said his government was working on the path shown by Ambedkar. "At the core of Dr. Ambedkar's teachings is harmony and togetherness. Working for the poorest of the poor is our mission," he remarked. Notably, at least nine people were killed in MP, Rajasthan, UP etc. during the Dalit protests.
