Shocking! Modi government spent Rs. 4,346 crore in publicity hitherto
What's the story
An RTI response has revealed that after Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power, the Central government has spent a whooping Rs. 4,346 crore on publicity alone.
The disclosed amount is the wholesome expenditure of the Modi government spent on advertisements across platforms, revealed Mumbai-based Anil Galgali, an activist who filed the RTI.
However shocking, this isn't an isolated case for the current dispensation.

The curious case of rising expenses
Further, from June 2014 to March 2015, Modi government spent Rs. 953.54 crore in just 9 months in office.
By 2015-16, the expenditure increased to Rs. 1,171 crore, followed by Rs. 1, 263 crore in 2016-17.
Finally in the last fiscal, advertisement expenses came down for the first time to a total of Rs. 955.46 crore.

"A detailed analysis proves that after stringent criticism it attracted, especially from the opposition and on social media, over squandering of scarce public resources, the government finally cut down on its publicity expenditure this year by Rs. 307.69 crore," said Galgali.
