Only if PM Modi was as compassionate as CM Modi
The survey by Thomson Reuters ranking India as the most dangerous country for women has sparked a controversy. The bone of contention is the better positioning of war-torn Syria, and Afghanistan in the survey. While Bharatiya Janata Party leaders slammed Congress President Rahul Gandhi for quoting the 'shady' survey, ironically PM Narendra Modi had used the survey results to target UPA-II in 2013.
This is what the man had tweeted then!
Women safety in India worse than Syria, Afghanistan, finds survey
The Thomson Reuters Foundation spoke to 550 experts on women issues and analyzed issues like- gender-based discrimination, sexual/non-sexual violence, sexist traditions, and trafficking, to conclude India is the worst country for women. In 2011, we took the fourth position. The survey results were widely debated. BJP ministers called it inappropriate while Opposition leaders used the figures to target the saffron party and Narendra Modi.
Maneka Gandhi called survey inaccurate
"India is far ahead of many countries in most of these areas and has also seen significant improvement in indicators when compared with its own performance in previous years. Therefore, the ranking of India is a surprise and clearly inaccurate," Maneka Gandhi said.
Rahul Gandhi took dig at PM Modi, BJP's spokesperson retaliated
On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi tweeted while women were unsafe, PM Modi focused on making yoga videos in his garden. Attacking Gandhi over this tweet, BJP spokesperson Poonam Mahajan wrote in Firstpost.com, "The Congress president has acquired a habit of spreading absolute lies through his Twitter handle." However, PM Modi has not spoken on the survey. But in 2013, he did speak on it.
Interestingly, in 2013 Modi found results of this survey correct
In 2013, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi had tweeted, "India is considered 4th most dangerous for women. When will she feel safe & symbol of positivity?" The Thomson Reuters said they conducted the survey to ascertain if things changed and found it hadn't. Well, BJP leaders dissing the survey reiterates only one truth, "Hypocrisy, thy name is politics."
