Rekha Gupta, a first-time Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Shalimar Bagh, was appointed the new chief minister of Delhi on Wednesday.
This is the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) return to power in the capital after 27 years.
Gupta is the fourth woman to hold the position in Delhi and the only incumbent woman chief minister in any BJP-ruled state. She was unanimously chosen by the BJP legislature party after winning her seat with 68,200 votes.

Gupta's political career started as president of the Delhi University Students's Union in 1996. She went on to become a municipal councilor and Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
The BJP's win ends Kejriwal's AAP's decade-long rule, with the BJP winning 48 out of 70 seats in the recent Assembly elections on February 5.
Gupta met Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena to stake her claim to form the new government, which was accepted.

"We have pledged to give ₹2,500 to our sisters...this guarantee will be completed because it is Modi's guarantee," PM Modi had said during his campaign.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place on Thursday afternoon at Ramlila Maidan.
