Manohar Parrikar rushed to hospital again after abdominal pain

    What's the story

Goa CM Manohar Parrikar has been admitted to hospital again. Four days ago, he was discharged after a one-week stay at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital.

He was rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Panaji yesterday evening after complaining of uneasiness and abdominal pain.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the 62-year-old CM was suffering from dehydration.

Earlier, he underwent treatment for pancreatitis.

Parrikar's recent hospital stay after stomach ache complaints

On February 15, Parrikar complained of stomach ache and was subsequently taken to the Goa Medical College and Hospital for a check-up.

The next day, he was shifted to Lilavati.

Though BJP and Lilavati issued statements that he was responding well to treatment, his actual condition remained shrouded in mystery till he was released from the hospital a week later.

'Doctors advised precautions in short-term, public interaction to be limited'

During his hospitalization, the BJP had entrusted PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar with tabling the budget on February 22.

But Parrikar surprised all by reaching the state assembly to present the budget, hours after he was released.

"I've been advised by doctors some precautions in the short term. During this period, my interaction with the public will be limited," he had said before the budget.

Parrikar's ill health puts BJP on shaky ground

Even as special prayers were held for his recovery in Dhavem, Vasco and Mumbai, Parrikar's hospitalization made headlines because of its probable impact on the BJP's strength in Goa.

Notably, BJP won only 13 of 40 seats in February'17.

It hurriedly stitched together an alliance of local parties and independents, who agreed to support them only if Parrikar helms the government.
