Manohar Lal Khattar is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician and two-time Chief Minister of Haryana state. He did his graduation from the University of Delhi while supporting himself by running a shop. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1977 and, in 1980 became a full-time Pracharak. After serving 17 years in the RSS, Khattar was moved to the BJP in 1994 and made Sangathan Mahamantri in Haryana. In 2000, he became the General Secretary of Haryana BJP, serving in this capacity till 2014. He gained a reputation as an efficient electoral strategist and planned campaigns for the BJP in several state and national elections. Khattar was appointed the Chairman of BJP’s Haryana Election Campaign Committee for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, in which he led BJP to win seven out of 10 Lok Sabha seats from the state. He successfully contested in the 2014 Haryana Assembly elections from Karnal constituency, leading BJP to victory and becoming the Chief Minister. In the 2019 assembly elections, BJP formed a post-poll alliance with JJP and retained power. Khattar became Chief Minister for the second time, with JJP’s Dushyant Chautala becoming the Deputy CM.
