Madhya Pradesh CM to rejig Cabinet as Ministers resign
The Madhya Pradesh government seems to be in peril after 19 MLAs tendered their resignation. The development comes after reports that at least party MLAs were flown to Bengaluru in BJP-ruled Karnataka by a chartered plane. The MLAs were reportedly loyal to party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the BJP has nothing to do with the crisis.
Congress called legislature party meeting today
Reportedly, 19 MLAs, including six Ministers, resigned after a Cabinet meeting late Monday, leaving the MP government in crisis. Notably, the Congress government in MP has 120 MLAs, just over the 116 majority mark in the 230-member state assembly. The BJP, on the other hand, has 107 MLAs. The Congress has now called a legislature party meeting today at 12 pm.
Don't think MP government will survive
Singh had told reporters that there is a "conspiracy to topple the government." Congress leader in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, said, "I don't think our government in Madhya Pradesh will survive," and blamed the BJP for "destabilizing Opposition governments. If the Congress government in MP fails, it will be the second since the collapse of the Congress-JDS government in Karnataka last year.
Scindia resigned from Congress; speculated to join BJP
Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia resigned from the party. He also held a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Singh claimed to have evidence that the three chartered planes, which flew to Bengaluru, were arranged by the BJP. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that Sonia Gandhi has ordered Scindia's expulsion from the party with immediate effect over "anti-party activities."
