Madhya Pradesh: Congress's fake voters claim gets busted by EC
Days after Congress alleged there were over 60 lakh fake voters in Madhya Pradesh, the Election Commission said there was no truth in the claims. As a Congress delegation wanted electoral rolls to be checked before the Assembly Elections in the state, a probe panel of EC busted the theory. The panel found there were no fake voters but there were some double-entry cases.
Findings of EC bound to embarrass Congress
Accepting there were double entries, the EC said the numbers fell from 68 lakh in 2015-16 to 7 lakh this year. This happened because either the lists were not updated after deaths or voters relocated. After the allegations, the Commission formed four teams having two members each to arrive at a conclusion. The EC's findings are sure to leave Congress red-faced.
EC says it didn't notice any irregularities
Earlier, Congress alleged the state population grew by 24% but voters saw a surge of 40% in the last five years. To this, the EC said, "This has been seen from the perspective of census data and annual increase in the numbers of the electoral roll and nothing unusual could be noticed. It can be safely concluded there is no basis to dispute current electoral-roll."
Kamal Nath claimed Congress would have won elections
Congress alleged one woman from Betul was registered under 26 different names with the same photo at one polling station. "Last time the difference between BJP & Congress was 6-7%. Had there been no false voters, the results would have been different," senior Congress leader Kamal Nath had said. Following the probe, the EC will ask the MP Chief Election Officer to update the electoral roll, immediately.
