Chief Secretary assault case: AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan granted bail
The Delhi HC granted bail to the AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan in the Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash's assault case. Khan, arrested on February 21, was granted relief with certain conditions. The court said, "The petitioner (Khan) has served an incarceration of more than 20 days and no further custodial interrogation is required. So the petitioner is released on bail." Here's more about it.
What is the Anshu Prakash assault case?
Prakash alleged he was summoned by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on February 19 to discuss some schemes. But, two AAP MLAs Khan and Prakash Jarwal allegedly manhandled him in front of Kejriwal. AAP slammed these allegations claiming that Prakash refused to answer questions about why 2.5L families were deprived ration. It also accused Prakash of acting on BJP's behest and using "bad language."
How has the case proceeded so far?
AAP received another blow when Kejriwal's advisor VK Jain reportedly said that Prakash was indeed assaulted. AAP, on the other hand, claimed Jain changed his statement under police pressure. Subsequently, Delhi police also found contradictions in Jain's testimony and the CCTV footage. Jarwal, who was arrested on February 20, was granted bail on March 9 with a warning that such illegal activity would lead to cancellation of bail.
Separately, Khan has various other criminal cases pending against him
During Khan's hearing, the Delhi police counsel submitted a status report stating that Khan was named in 12 criminal cases, of which he was discharged in three. The charges include attempt to culpable homicide, molestation, threatening and criminal intimidation, threatening complainant to withdraw case, etc.
