Lalu Yadav is suffering from depression, RIMS Director says
RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav is suffering from depression, Director of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) RK Shrivastava said, on Monday. Further, Dr Shrivastava said Lalu's mental illness was also mentioned in the discharge report of AIIMS. When asked about reports which stated psychiatrist would look into Lalu's health, Dr Shrivastava said there is no update as of now. Here's more.
Dog barks, mosquito menace worsened condition, Lalu tells officials
On Wednesday, Lalu was shifted to 100-bed paying ward of the hospital, after RIMS accepted his reasons for poor health. Lalu said dog barks, mosquito menace and poor hygiene, deteriorated his condition. He will have to pay Rs. 1,000 per day at the present ward, and the transfer was done after jail superintendent gave the permission, Dr Shrivastava said.
Battle between sons for power reason behind Lalu's depression?
Notably, some reports suggested the power tussle between his sons Tejashwi and Tej Pratap along with the slew of corruption charges could also be the reason behind Lalu's depression. While he has openly supported Tejashwi's bid as his political heir, Tej has higher public standing.
Backstory: Lalu was convicted in fodder scam
Lalu is serving time in Birsa Munda jail after being convicted in cases of the multi-crore fodder scam. He underwent a fistula operation at a Mumbai hospital and sought an extension in bail last month. Denying the bail, Jharkhand High Court said his condition wasn't life-threatening and he can re-apply for fresh bail when he needs an operation. He is also a heart patient.
