Lalu's son gets engaged to granddaughter of former Bihar CM
Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav's elder son Tej Pratap Yadav got engaged to Aishwarya Rai, senior party leader Chandrika Rai's daughter, at Patna's five-star Hotel Maurya on Wednesday. Aishwarya is also the granddaughter of Daroga Rai, who served as Bihar's CM in 1970. Lalu, currently in prison in connection with four fodder scams, wasn't granted bail to attend the ceremony. Here's more.
Meet the would-be bride and groom
Aishwarya, 25, went to Patna's Notre Dame school. She then studied at Delhi University and followed it up with an MBA from Amity University, Noida. Meanwhile, Tej Pratap, 29, entered politics after flunking in Class 12. Elected from Mahua Assembly in 2015, he was appointed the health minister in Nitish Kumar's cabinet. His would-be father-in-law Chandrika Rai, six-time MLA, was the transport minister then.
When is the wedding?
Talks of a matrimonial alliance between the two families had been on for six months now. The grand wedding will be held in Patna on May 12, reports Indian Express. Lalu is likely to seek judicial permission to attend it. His next hearing is on April 20. In his absence, his wife and former Bihar CM Rabri Devi oversaw all the arrangements at the engagement.
Not the first matrimonial-political alliance in Yadav family
The engagement ceremony was an intimate but dazzling affair with family members and relatives on both sides in attendance. However, this isn't the first matrimonial-political alliance in the Yadav family. Lalu's youngest daughter Raj Laxmi is married to Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's grand-nephew.
