Fodder scam: Lalu Prasad to receive VIP treatment in prison
After getting convicted in the fodder scam case by a special CBI court on Saturday, RJD chief and former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav was put in the same upper division jail cell where he stayed after his 2013 conviction. According to sources, Yadav will get VIP treatment in prison and other inmates will not be allowed to visit him during his stay.
The jail superintendent's statement
"He has been kept in an upper grade cell where he stayed in 2013. He straightaway went to his cell to take rest," said Birsa Munda Central Prison's jail superintendent Ashok Choudhary.
Lalu Prasad's entitlements during his prison tenure
In his upper division cell in Ranchi's Birsa Munda Central Prison, Lalu Prasad Yadav will be entitled to a mosquito net, a daily newspaper, television, and home cooked food. The ex-CM will also have the option of cooking his own food. The former railway minister had undergone a heart surgery in 2014, and therefore has several diet restrictions, said Annapurna Devi of the RJD.
Lalu prefers eating jail food in prison
"He prefers eating jail food when inside. We, however, try and provide home-cooked food to him," said Annapurna Devi.
Lalu Prasad Yadav's last stint in prison
After his conviction in 2013 by a special CBI court in Ranchi, Lalu Prasad Yadav was kept in the same upper division jail cell in the Birsa Munda Central Prison where he stayed for a period of 77 days before getting bail from the Supreme Court. However, major rule violations were reported during Lalu's last stint in prison.
