Kharge responds after Modi claims industrialists gave Congress 'tempo-filled' cash
What's the story
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's accusations that the Congress received "tempo loads of black money" from industrialists "Adani and Ambani."
In a statement released on Friday, Kharge questioned the prime minister's inaction if such transactions were indeed happening.
"What is PM Modi doing if the Congress is getting tempo loads of money from Adani and Ambani?" he asked.
Accusations
Kharge accuses PM Modi of ignoring manifesto, attacking Congress
Kharge further accused PM Modi and his close aide Amit Shah of being "worried" following the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
He claimed that they had resorted to attacking the Congress instead of discussing their manifesto.
"After three phases of polls, Modi and Shah Saab got worried. They stopped talking about their manifesto, but only are abusing the Congress," Kharge stated.
Modi's allegations
PM accused Congress of having 'deal' with Ambani, Adani
For the first time, PM Modi accused the Congress of having a "deal" with "Ambani and Adani" and inquired whether it had received "tempo loads of black money" from them on Wednesday.
The prime minister also demanded that the party explain why it had stopped bringing up the issue as its "shehzada [Rahul Gandhi] used to do for the past five years."
Challenge
Gandhi challenges Modi to initiate investigation
In response to PM Modi's allegations, Gandhi challenged him to initiate an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the matter.
Gandhi also claimed that any money PM Modi has allegedly given to Adani and Ambani would be given back to the poorest people in the country through various schemes that the party has promised.
