Keshav Prasad Maurya: News

Keshav Prasad Maurya is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician from the state of Uttar Pradesh. He was born in a modest agrarian family and used to assist his father in selling tea by the roadside. He was associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) soon after completing his education and participated in the activities conducted by the organization. He emerged as a young leader in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement in the 1990s. On the insistence of VHP's senior leader, Ashok Singhal, Maurya entered active politics in the 2000s and started working as a BJP Karyakarta in Uttar Pradesh. He was elected as the first-ever BJP candidate from the Sirathu constituency to the State Legislative Assembly in the 2012 UP elections. Maurya served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly till 2014, when he contested and won from the Phulpur constituency in the Lok Sabha elections held that year. In 2016, he was made the state president of BJP, ahead of the 2017 Assembly polls. BJP won an emphatic victory in the elections, and Maurya became the Deputy CM along with Dinesh Sharma under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
