Yeddyurappa out, Kumaraswamy in: Details about swearing-in of new Karnataka-CM
After BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa resigned from his post of Karnataka CM, merely 55 hours after taking the oath, JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy picked up his invitation to be the next head of the state. Kumaraswamy is likely to be sworn-in as Karnataka Chief Minister on Wednesday. He postponed the ceremony from Monday in honor of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's death anniversary.
Kumarswamy's oath taking ceremony to have leaders of Opposition
The oath-taking ceremony of HD Kumaraswamy will be a show of opposition unity, it seems. The Chief Minister candidate of JD(S) and Congress alliance is said to have invited West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, BSP chief Mayawati. He said he will also extend an invitation to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, and his mother Sonia Gandhi.
Have invited all regional leaders for ceremony: Kumaraswamy
"Mamata Banerjee, Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao congratulated me. Mayawati ji has also blessed me. I have invited all regional leaders for the oath ceremony. I've also invited Sonia Gandhi ji & Rahul Gandhi ji personally," said Kumaraswamy.
Yeddyurappa accepts contacting MLAs before floor-test
The Supreme Court on Friday curtailed the time given to BSY to prove majority from 15 days to just 28 hours. Failing to bring MLAs on his side, Yeddyurappa resigned, but not before giving an emotional speech and accepting he reached out to lawmakers. "I had gotten in touch with MLAs to ensure that stable BJP government is in power," he said.
After BJP left red-faced, Rahul Gandhi comes all gun blazing
Despite saying they have the majority, BJP's star CM candidate Yeddyurappa failed to deliver. After the Karnataka episode left BJP embarrassed, Rahul Gandhi launched a blitzkrieg. "They believe that every single institution can be destroyed and stepped upon by them. We have explained to the BJP and the RSS that there are limits to your arrogance," he said on Saturday.
