Newly-elected Congress MLA Siddu Nyamagouda, 70, died in a road accident in Bagalkote district in Karnataka early today, a senior police official said.
Nyamagouda had suffered severe injuries and died instantly, District Superintendent of Police Vamshikumar said.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.
Nyamagouda was the Union Minister in the PV Narasimha Rao cabinet in 1990-91.

Nyamagouda was on his way to Jamkhandi when accident occured
Nyamagouda was on the way to his constituency Jamkhandi, coming from Goa when the car he was traveling in tried to avoid a lorry and hit a roadside parapet wall, Vamshikumar said.
The former Union Minister was in New Delhi and had returned to Goa by flight before he proceeded to his constituency by car, the police official said.
