It's "secularism vs. communalism" in upcoming Karnataka polls: CM Siddaramaiah
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said the upcoming State Assembly elections will see a "secularism versus communalism" contest while asserting that Congress will emerge as victorious. He said the poll results will be a "stepping stone" for 2019 General Elections. Siddaramaiah was speaking at Congress's plenary session in New Delhi ahead of the Karnataka polls, the dates for which are yet to be announced. Here's more.

"No one can stop Rahul Gandhi from becoming the country's Prime Minister after the next general polls," Siddaramaiah said. "It is going to be secularism versus communalism contest (in Karnataka). Congress is confident that...we will come back to power with a thumping majority in Karnataka. It will be a big boost and work as a stepping stone for the coming Parliamentary elections," he added.
Campaigns for Karnataka polls underway
Siddaramaiah's speech was mostly focused on the welfare programs undertaken in Karnataka. Campaign for the upcoming Karnataka election is already underway with national leaders of Congress and BJP canvassing in the state. HD Deve Gowda-led Janata Dal (Secular) is another major party contesting the elections.
